Pollock Halls

04-05 April 2008: Register

Directions

The conference venue is at the University of Edinburgh’s Halls of Residence, Pollock Halls, which is well known to taxi drivers. When asking for directions it may be helpful to say that it is close to The Commonwealth (swimming) Pool.

The conference is being held in the South Hall complex on Friday and Saturday. The charity tutorial on Thursday is in the St Trinnean’s suite of St Leonard’s Hall, next to the reception centre. A map of the Pollock Hall complex can be downloaded here.

From Edinburgh Airport

The Airlink express bus terminates at Edinburgh Waverly station and costs £3 per passenger. See below for directions from Edinburgh Waverly. A better option might be the BAA Shuttle Bus, offering a door to door service for £8. Taxis from the airport to the city centre are the most expensive option, probably costing £15 to £20.

From Edinburgh Waverly Railway Station

Pollock Halls is about 1.5 miles from Edinburgh Waverly, and your choice is foot, taxi or bus.

To catch a bus from North Bridge, leave the station at the Princess Street exit and turn right. Take the first right, onto the bridge that crosses over the railway. Catch the 30, 14, or 33 bus from the other side of the road (heading away from Princess street). You can download a map of Waverly station here

Adult single fares are £1. The Lothian Buses route map is here.

By road

You can get directions from Google Maps or other sites. The postcode is EH16 5AY.

Be sure to get a parking pass: ask the security guard at the gate or reception.

Accomodation

A number of resources are available to help book your accommodation:-

  • Late Rooms offers the widest range of accommodation near the venue, usually at discounted prices. Search for places in the region of EH16 5AY.
  • Edinburgh First (University of Edinburgh) have a limited number of bed and breakfast places in easy walking distance of the conference. These appear on Late Rooms , but you can also book online here.
  • Visit Scotland have a (quite poor) online search and booking facility here. Alternatively a nice person can book you a room if you phone 0845 22 55 121 (or +44 (0)1506 832 121 from outside the UK). This is probably a good choice if you want to book a nearby Bed and Breakfast.
  • Edinburgh Central Travelodge is quite close, if you like that sort of thing.
